Guide Dogs Charity is totally Pawsome!

Here at our firm, we select a different charity to support each month and October was dedicated to the incredible Guide Dogs charity. Lucy Parker, PA at Page Kirk, put the charity forward to be considered as one of our charities of the year for 2023. Here she writes about her motivations and describes exactly what we did to help the cause.

We recently held a charity fundraiser day here in our office at Page Kirk to raise money and awareness for the fantastic charity “Guide Dogs” and what a brilliant day it was!

We were kindly joined by staff members and volunteers from the charity, as well as many visitors, who bought along their fury four-legged guide dogs. We all had a totally fun-filled day, eating lots of yummy homemade sweet treats, sharing cups of tea and exchanging amazing stories, as well as holding quizzes, playing games, taking photos together and shopping through the brilliant merchandise the Guide Dogs charity kindly bought along for us all to see.

Alongside our tea party fundraiser, we also held a rugby sweepstake around our office to help raise further money for this precious cause, plus a dress-down day here in the office to add even more fun.

Claire Robotham, Guide Dogs Community Fundraising Relationship Manager (Nottingham) told us:

“We had a great afternoon at Page Kirk's office. We had lots of dogs join us, puppies and working guide dogs alike, and of course our dedicated volunteers. We were made very welcome and all the staff within the offices were thrilled to have us there. It was a great opportunity to talk all things guide dogs and your staff asked some great questions and were genuine in wanting to learn more about what we and the dogs do and what it can mean for a service user like myself. To receive the gift of our life changing dogs is incredible. You cannot put a price on independence! Thanks again for having us and for selecting Guide Dogs as your charity of the month. Every penny raised goes directly to helping Guide Dogs achieve their goal of ensuring adults and children live actively, live independently and live well.”

I personally selected this charity because I feel that Guide Dogs offer incredible and utterly priceless support to their community and are deeply passionate about their cause. Many dedicated staff members, volunteers and their fully trained, friendly and loyal guide dogs provide outstanding help to the partially sighted individuals who need their services.

My grandmother, who is partially sighted, was given the blessing of a guide dog, whose name was Millie. She was a black labrador. Millie was not only my grandmother's stability and safety when she ventured out into the world, but also her best friend and very much part of our family. Thanks to Millie, my grandmother was able to meet her friends, enjoy her hobbies and get out of the house on the move which contributed to her overall happiness, independence, and well-being.

Guide Dogs are forever and always grateful for any donations and contributions to help support and strengthen their cause. If you want to learn more, please visit their website at www.guidedogs.org.uk.

There you can find lots of information about the charity itself, further stories from the individuals and families their guide dogs have helped, along with many ways you too can get involved.
