Charity at Page Kirk for 2023 – the year of giving back.

Page Kirk has always chosen one specific charity to support for the whole year, but in 2023, Head Receptionist and charity coordinator Amanda Willis had other ideas.

October:

After Bekah, our marketing manager, just about fell off her chair, I thought yes, what a crazy idea. But she picked herself back and we carried on.

With the economic crisis at the moment and everyone struggling, I thought helping 12 local charities – a different one each month – would be a nice touch to spread the love.

The first charity the team have been supporting in Baby Basics based in Long Eaton.

It’s a volunteer-led project aiming to support new mothers and families who are struggling to meet the financial and practical burden of looking after a new baby, by working with health care professionals.

The Baby Basics centres started in Sheffield in 2009 and have grown, with over 50 centres around the UK.

The charity works with midwives, health visitors and other professional groups to provide support where it is most needed to teenage mums, people seeking asylum, women fleeting abuse and trafficking, among others. They provide new baby packages which include bedding, towels, clothing and toiletries.

The Page Kirk team have been donating all sorts to support the charity, from nappies, wipes, dummies to pre-loved clothes.

We dropped them off at the Baby Basics office and I met with volunteer Jane Allen from the charity. She said to me:

Page Kirk’s payroll manager Jo.

“It is great a local company has been able to support Baby Basics Long Eaton. There are so many that don’t know about our amazing service, so it is great for brand awareness. We are grateful for Page Kirk’s donations and it will help families who are unable to afford the basic essentials and equipment necessary to look after their new-borns.”

The Long Eaton office supports Erewash, South Nottingham and Derby area, so if you are a health care professional, charity or social worker who works with families, they will take referrals from you for any ‘mum to be’. Contact babybasicslongeaton@gmail.com.

I’m afraid the charity doesn’t accept self-referrals and suggests you should speak to your midwife or heath visitor and ask them to refer you.

Baby Basics works in association of Bundles of Hope which is a charity open to all, there is no referral process. Pop in any Monday, 1pm-3pm or Thursday 9.30am – 11.30am. You will be able to browse through their racks of children clothing and also get access to shoes, nappies and wipes free of charge. You will always receive a warm welcome and a cuppa!

February’s charity is a little bit different to anything we have supported before. I shall update you soon. (A little clue - dust extracted shavings!)

Good luck working that out, I will be back soon…
