Meet our most recent trainee accountants

Please give a warm welcome to Michael, Alex, Oliver, Harry and Lucia who has recently joined the Page Kirk team.

Each brings something unique to the team, from varied backgrounds and experiences to their own ambitions and passions. Here's a closer look at their journeys so far.

Meet Michael Clarke

Michael Clarke

Michael recently joined us after graduating from the University of Nottingham, where he earned a degree in Finance, Accounting and Management.

When he was younger, Michael wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps and become a teacher, but his passion for numbers and how businesses work soon led him towards accountancy and now is working towards the ACA qualification to become a chartered accountant.

His degree gave him a strong grounding in financial reporting, management accounting, and business analysis, as well as insight into how organisations use financial data to make informed decisions.

Outside of work, Michael enjoys listening to music, playing football, gaming, and watching anime.

“I'm really enjoying the workflow and getting to apply what I learned at university in a real-world setting. Everyone at Page Kirk has been so welcoming, and the social events are a great way to get to know colleagues outside of work.”
— Michael

Say Hello to Oliver Hood

Oliver Hood

Oliver is completing a year-long placement with us as part of his Accounting and Finance degree at Nottingham Trent University.

With a love of maths and numbers from an early age, accountancy felt like a natural career choice for him. Oliver enjoys working with clients and values building personal as well as professional relationships.

After completing his placement year, he'll return to university to finish his degree before continuing his career in accountancy.

When he's not studying or working, Oliver can be found racing in the British Universities Karting Championship (BUKC) or playing football.

“From my first meeting with Partner John Wallis and Senior Audit and Training Manager Jonathan Newman, I knew Page Kirk would be a great place to work. John's energy and enthusiasm really put the firm in a good light and helped me decide to join. Since then, I've found that the people here are not only great accountants but even better people. And the Friday pub trips are always a highlight!”

Introducing Harry Pickering

Harry Pickering

Harry is a trainee accountant currently studying towards his AAT Level 3 qualification. Having studied business and finance throughout school, he developed an early interest in how organisations operate and manage their finances.

Before beginning his career in accountancy, Harry worked in retail and hospitality, progressing into a management position. This experience helped him develop valuable transferable skills, including leadership, problem-solving, organisation, and the ability to perform well under pressure.

When he's not at work, you'll likely find Harry watching or playing football, he's a true sports fan at heart!

“The transition to accountancy from my last job has been great, regular hours and nowhere near as hectic! I'm enjoying learning on the job and figuring things out as I go. It feels really rewarding when I find an answer on my own, but even if I can't, there's always someone around to help.
I've currently got 7 or 8 jobs on the go with a mixture of sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies. It's nice to have that variety so things never get repetitive.”
— Harry

Get to know Lucia

lucia johnson

Lucia is also working towards her AAT qualification. Before beginning her accountancy career, she built a varied background across several industries.

Originally trained as a pastry chef, Lucia worked in professional kitchens before deciding to change direction. She then gained experience in agriculture and ecommerce, all while studying finance at The Open University. This combination of practical work experience and academic study has given her a strong foundation for a successful career in accountancy.

Lucia enjoys working with clients from all walks of life and is motivated by helping them achieve clarity and confidence in their finances.

Outside of work, Lucia's creative side shines through, she loves to crochet and bake, and she's already treated the office to some delicious homemade bakes (a very welcome way to make friends!).

“I'm really enjoying working at Page Kirk, the team is amazing and so supportive as I learn on the job. My previous studies gave me a good understanding of how accounts work, but what I'm learning here goes into much more depth and is genuinely interesting. My experience in other industries has also helped me understand how different clients operate.”
— Lucia

Welcome Alex

Alex Cormack

Alex's route into accountancy began after starting out on another career path. Before joining Page Kirk, he worked as an events manager in London, where he developed valuable leadership and problem-solving experience. These skills now serve him well in accountancy, helping him stay adaptable and client-focused when managing complex financial information or tight deadlines.

Alex is part of our graduate scheme and works in the accounts and audit team, where he helps prepare year-end accounts, tax returns, and supports clients through audits.

A Mathematics graduate from the University of York, Alex earned a First-Class Integrated Master's Degree in 2021. He particularly enjoys working with sole traders and small business owners, as it allows him to learn about different industries while helping them grow and succeed.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys travelling, watching movies, and playing board games.

"The people at Page Kirk have been so generous with their time and effort that it's made the transition to this role as easy as possible. I'm enjoying learning so much in such a short space of time and it doesn't take long before you get to apply the knowledge you're being given on real jobs for clients. The college system and support available is a great way to learn the material quickly and effectively and has made me feel much more confident about dealing with accounts."
— Alex
