Two team members shortlisted for East Midlands Chamber Business Awards

Business Awards 2021

We are proud to announce that two of our team members have made it to the finals of the 'Apprentice of the Year' category at the annual East Midlands Chamber Business Awards for the Nottinghamshire area.

Page Kirk employees Martin Cull and Josh Ruthven have been chosen to go into the finals, after the business group recognised their hard work and adaptability throughout the last 18 months.

The award celebrates the business leaders of the future and recognises those who have made an outstanding contribution to the organisation they work in.

Martin and Josh have been singled out as 'rising stars', who have shown immense enthusiasm whilst learning and researching the government coronavirus support schemes and how to implement them for our clients.

Martin, who joined the firm in 2019 having completed a degree in Maths and Physics at the University of Nottingham, works in the Audit Department while studying for the ACA qualification.

Josh, who also joined the firm in 2019 after graduating from Loughborough University with a degree in Mathematics with Economics, works in our Tax Department and is studying towards the ACA/CTA joint qualification.

Both demonstrated an outstanding practical application of theory and technical knowledge almost instantly. Just six months into their careers with Page Kirk, the coronavirus pandemic forced the team to find new ways of working. This is where Martin and Josh volunteered to help take responsibility for learning the complex details surrounding the government support programmes such as the Job Retention Scheme, alongside getting to grips with our usual tax, accountancy and audit work.

Martin and Josh have played an active role in communicating with clients, delivering sound, timely advice which reassures them on how they can support their employees throughout one of the most challenging times for businesses in modern history.

Partner Jack Moore commented:

“The team are delighted to see that Martin and Josh's work ethic and willingness to learn have been recognised by the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce. They both went out of their way, time and time again, to research and keep up to date with the ever-changing Job Retention Scheme rules and guidelines, which helped keep many businesses afloat throughout the pandemic. Not only did they demonstrate their technical skills by processing Job Retention Scheme claims, but they each confidently and empathetically discussed the practicalities of navigating the Covid business landscape with business owners, who could be more confident knowing that they had a sound advisor in their corner. They both have a promising career ahead of them.

“Nottinghamshire has a fantastic business landscape and we're proud to be a part of this community and to see our team members stand side by side with the other finalists. All of them are worthy winners and we wish the nominees in every category the best of luck.”

The East Midlands Chamber of Commerce are hoping the winners will be revealed at a Gala Dinner in November, with the successful candidates then going on to compete at the National Chamber Business Awards.
