Page Kirk’s graduate scheme kickstarting accounting careers

Anees joined the team as a Tax Trainee back in September 2018, after graduating with a BSc (hons) degree in Industrial Economics with Insurance from the University of Nottingham. Two years into his career, here is what he has to say about making the leap from university into the accounting industry.

For me, the graduate scheme thus far has proven to be a challenging, yet very rewarding and enriching experience. I am currently entering my third year on the ACA-CTA joint programme with Page Kirk, and I have been fortunate enough to spend time in accounts preparation and the tax department.

I had always harboured ambitions of working in an area where legislation and economics are combined, given that I graduated with a degree in economics. When I found out that there was a joint programme available at Page Kirk to study both accountancy and tax, I jumped at the chance to apply here.

It has certainly been a very fast-paced learning curve, particularly when I first joined - studying and work full-time is quite the challenge! The experience, however, has been made that much more rewarding with the support of my colleagues and senior management who made sure I felt confident in my abilities to pull through the exams.

At Page Kirk, there is so much scope to try and take control of your own experiences here. The benefits of working in a smaller, independent firm are clear to see. You can shape your own experiences and can spend time in different departments, and gain exposure to more than one area of the accountancy world.

The camaraderie within the team is something which I value the most here. Everyone is very approachable and there are many social activities for people to get involved in. Having such a friendly workforce is important for me, as I feel confident in knowing that you always have colleagues on hand to help assist you with work-related matters.

Going forwards, I look forward to completing my studies and successfully finishing the joint programme, so that I can develop my specialism in the world of Tax Practice, here at Page Kirk.
