Helping children and their families when they most need it

Amanda Wills, our Head Receptionist at Page Kirk, has worked throughout 2017 to co-ordinate fundraising for the Nottingham Children’s Hospital. Here, she describes some of the events and activities that have taken place and the way it’s helping kids and their parents.

If a parent has a child who needs to stay in hospital, it goes without saying that it’s a very worrying and stressful time. Although the Nottingham Children’s Hospital provides great care for kids who can have a range of very serious illnesses – from kidney conditions and cancer to problems affecting their brains and respiratory systems – they’re always looking to improve the facilities.

Here at Page Kirk, we decided to join up with colleagues in Page Kirk Financial Services and Solutions for Accounting to raise money which will help build a special area where mums and dads can rest and relax while their children are on the wards.

Every month we’ve had charity dress down days as well as special events. We had an event with Easter eggs and Easter-themed games and another where people had a chance to win bottles. In the summer, our Solutions team took part in the Great Notts Bike Ride. Then there was the scary-dress charity day in October and, more recently, we had a Christmas-themed dress-down day with mulled wine and games.

Some of us were recently able to visit a ward at Queen’s Medical Centre and hand over a cheque for £4,500 and also take along toys that we’d collected for the kids at Christmas time. To see how much it means to the staff and patients there really made all the effort worthwhile.
