Meet our most recent trainee accountants

Please give a warm welcome to Michael, Alex, Oliver, Harry and Lucia who has recently joined the Page Kirk team.

Each brings something unique to the team, shaped by their own backgrounds, experiences and individual strengths. Together, they contribute fresh ideas, growing expertise and a shared commitment to delivering the best for our clients. Their varied academic paths, professional journeys and personal interests all play a role in building a well rounded and forward thinking team. As they continue to develop their skills and gain hands on experience, they are already making a positive impact across the firm. Here is a closer look at their journeys so far and the paths that led them to Page Kirk.

Michael recently joined us after graduating from the University of Nottingham with a degree in Finance, Accounting and Management. He once considered following his dad into teaching, but his interest in numbers and how businesses function steered him towards accountancy. He is now working towards his ACA qualification to become a chartered accountant. His degree provided a strong grounding in financial reporting, management accounting and business analysis, as well as insight into how organisations use financial data to make informed decisions. Outside of work, Michael enjoys music, football, gaming and anime.

“I’m really enjoying the workflow and getting to apply what I learned at university in a real-world setting. Everyone at Page Kirk has been so welcoming, and the social events are a great way to get to know colleagues outside of work.” — Michael

Oliver is completing a year-long placement with us as part of his Accounting and Finance degree at Nottingham Trent University. With a long-standing interest in maths and numbers, accountancy felt like a natural path. He enjoys working with clients and values building both personal and professional relationships. After his placement, he will return to university to complete his degree before continuing his career in accountancy. Outside of work and study, Oliver races in the British Universities Karting Championship and also enjoys playing football.

“From my first meeting with Partner John Wallis and Senior Audit and Training Manager Jonathan Newman, I knew Page Kirk would be a great place to work. John’s energy and enthusiasm really put the firm in a good light and helped me decide to join. Since then, I’ve found that the people here are not only great accountants but even better people. And the Friday pub trips are always a highlight!” — Oliver

Harry is a trainee accountant currently studying towards his AAT Level 3 qualification. Having studied business and finance throughout school, he developed an early interest in how organisations operate and manage their finances.

Before beginning his career in accountancy, Harry worked in retail and hospitality, progressing into a management position. This experience helped him develop valuable transferable skills, including leadership, problem-solving, organisation, and the ability to perform well under pressure. When he’s not at work, you’ll likely find Harry watching or playing football, he’s a true sports fan at heart!

“The transition to accountancy from my last job has been great, regular hours and nowhere near as hectic! I’m enjoying learning on the job and figuring things out as I go. It feels really rewarding when I find an answer on my own, but even if I can’t, there’s always someone around to help.
I’ve currently got 7 or 8 jobs on the go with a mixture of sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies. It’s nice to have that variety so things never get repetitive.” — Harry

Lucia is working towards her AAT qualification and brings a varied background from several industries. She originally trained as a pastry chef and worked in professional kitchens before deciding to change direction. She later gained experience in agriculture and ecommerce while studying finance at The Open University, giving her a strong mix of practical experience and academic knowledge. She enjoys working with clients from different backgrounds and is motivated by helping them gain clarity and confidence in their finances. Outside of work, Lucia’s creative side comes through. She loves to crochet and bake and has already treated the office to some homemade bakes.

“I’m really enjoying working at Page Kirk, the team is amazing and so supportive as I learn on the job. My previous studies gave me a good understanding of how accounts work, but what I’m learning here goes into much more depth and is genuinely interesting. My experience in other industries has also helped me understand how different clients operate.” — Lucia

Alex moved into accountancy after beginning his career in events management in London, where he developed strong leadership and problem solving skills. These now support his work in the accounts and audit team, where he prepares year end accounts, tax returns and assists clients during audits. He graduated from the University of York with a First Class Integrated Master’s Degree in Mathematics in 2021. Alex enjoys working with sole traders and small business owners, as it allows him to learn about different industries while helping them grow. Outside of work, he enjoys travelling, watching movies and playing board games.

“The people at Page Kirk have been so generous with their time and effort that it’s made the transition to this role as easy as possible. I’m enjoying learning so much in such a short space of time and it doesn’t take long before you get to apply the knowledge you’re being given on real jobs for clients. The college system and support available is a great way to learn the material quickly and effectively and has made me feel much more confident about dealing with accounts.” — Alex
