Mud challenge bid to aid meningitis charity

On Saturday 12th May four of our dedicated team members, Tom Johnson, Luke Sisson, Bryn Luffman, and Ciaran Finn went above and beyond the call of duty and embarked on the Tough Mudder challenge to raise much-needed cash for our charity of the year Meningitis Now.

The most demanding of all mud runs based at Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire tested every inch of their strength, stamina and grit. Stretching over five miles, the course comprised of epic obstacles including mud mounds, water pits and massive climbing walls where mudders helped one another up giving boosts and climbing on one another.

Bryn who works in our tax department said:

“Although I was quite nervous to take part due to my lack of preparation, Tough Mudder ended up being a whole lot of fun! As a team I feel we did extremely well. We completed all the obstacles, maintained a decent pace and had a great laugh along the way!”

“Overall though, I felt very proud to have had a hand in raising some money for Meningitis Now. This has definitely given me motivation to take part in more charity events and continue to raise money for charity.”

Tom, a trainee in our audit department said:

“I really enjoyed the challenge of Tough Mudder working as a team to complete it together, and knowing how much we raised for such a good cause really spurred us on. Whilst we were there I also hope we increased awareness of Meningitis Now through our t-shirts that really stood out even through all the mud!”

Ciaran, who also works in our audit department, was thankful to everyone that had sponsored the team:

“It’s all about raising awareness and funds for Meningitis Now. Every little contribution helps, so we are ever so grateful to everyone that sponsored us.”

The charity’s Harry Gardner said: “We are so grateful to Page Kirk for choosing us as their charity of the year and entering a team to Tough Mudder. The event is lots of fun and I’m sure the team will enjoy themselves, whilst also raising funds for Meningitis Now. As a charity we rely solely on donations, so the support from Page Kirk is vital for us to continue our life-saving work. Thank you!”

Meningitis is still affecting individuals and families across the UK and the impact of the condition is devastating. The charity does remarkable work to save lives, rebuild futures, fund research, raise awareness and provide support to individuals and families affected.

The intrepid athletes had set a goal of raising £500, which could provide victims of Meningitis with up to ten hours of emotional support from a specialist counsellor or therapist. Alternatively, it could fund 25 hours of research into the illness, which is the biggest cause of death among children under five in the UK.

The team are ever so close to hitting their goal.
