Finding new ways to success

Jessica Smith

University isn’t the only route to achievement says our new Assistant Manager. We are proud to announce that we have promoted one of our chartered accountants to Assistant Manager just two months after she qualified in the profession.

When Jessica Smith left school in 2013 with two A* and an A at A Level, it seemed logical she’d head off to one of the country’s top universities. But our newly-appointed Assistant Manager decided on a different route.

Keen to gain practical experience and study while she worked, she decided to join Page Kirk on a training contract. It’s a decision which has really paid off and one which may appeal to other ambitious students, daunted at the prospect of increasing student debt.

Jessica completed her first qualification with the AAT in 2015 and then went on to work towards her chartered accountant status, which she achieved in August this year. Within two months, she’d found herself appointed to Assistant Manager within our Accounts Department.

Jessica commented:

“To be promoted to assistant manager just two months after qualifying shows the trust and faith Page Kirk have in me and makes me feel a valued member of the team. Hands-on experience has provided me with knowledge and skills that I could not have learnt from a classroom. This route has also enabled me to avoid student debt and qualify in a shorter time period. This new position will allow me to mentor junior staff members and help them on their path to becoming qualified accountants and to show trainees what can be achieved with some hard work. I am also excited about managing my own portfolio of clients.”

John Wallis, Senior Partner at Page Kirk, said:

“We try to ensure that our entire staff feel fulfilled in their role and obtain the recognition they deserve. Jessica’s outstanding contribution to the accountants department in such a short time warrants recognition. She has been essential to our cloud accounting team and I knew as soon as she was qualified she would get recognition for all her hard work. She is exceptionally talented and it only seems natural for her to take on this role. We wish her every success in her future career with us.”
