Going the Extra Five Miles for Charity

Page Kirk’s nominated Charity of the Year for 2018 is Meningitis Now – an organisation which raises awareness of the deadly disease, while also helping to save lives through research.

The worthy cause has attracted the interest of many members of staff, but four of our team are going above and beyond the call of duty and embarking on the Tough Mudder challenge to raise much-needed cash.

Tom Johnson, Bryn Luffman, Ciaran Finn and Luke Sisson are heading to Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire on 12th May to take part in the most demanding of all mud runs – testing every inch of their strength, stamina and grit. Stretching over five miles, the course comprises epic obstacles, so participants really need to be in peak condition.

The team are actively preparing for Tough Mudder, with Tom – a trainee in Page Kirk’s audit department – focusing on building his upper body strength.

“It’s a great chance to test ourselves mentally and physically,” he says.

Chartered Accountant Luke, who has been running to ensure he’s in tip-top condition, added: “Raising money for a fantastic cause is just the excuse we need to get up and get fit!”

Ciaran, a tax trainee at the firm, said:

“It’s a great opportunity to have some fun with three of my mates from work, while also raising money for a very important charity.”

Bryn, who also works in our tax department, is appealing for sponsors.

“It’s all about raising awareness and funds for Meningitis Now. Every little contribution helps, so please do consider making a donation in support of the team.”

The intrepid athletes have set a goal of raising £500, which could provide victims of Meningitis with up to ten hours of emotional support from a specialist counsellor or therapist. Alternatively, it could fund 25 hours of research into the illness, which is the biggest cause of death among children under five in the UK.

The charity’s Harry Gardner said: “We are so grateful to Page Kirk for choosing us as their charity of the year and entering a team to Tough Mudder. The event is lots of fun and I’m sure the team will enjoy themselves, whilst also raising funds for Meningitis Now. As a charity we rely solely on donations, so the support from Page Kirk is vital for us to continue our life-saving work. Thank you!”
