On Thursday 27th April it was announced that Making Tax Digital has been put on hold.

In light of the General Election to be held on 8 June, the Government have announced the legislation for Making Tax Digital will not be included in the Finance Act 2017.

Making Tax Digital would have force millions of businesses and self-employed people to file multiple tax returns each year. The scheme which would have come into play for large businesses from 2018 and small businesses from 2019 will be delayed at least a year, and many have speculated the possibility that it could be scrapped altogether due to heavy criticism.
